History of Torbay Story
Torbay Story was launched in 2023 as a way of promoting our beautiful area and highlighting its positive aspects and potential. It was led by the Torquay Place Leadership Board in partnership with various stakeholders, including Torbay Council.
The aim was simple: to attract external investment and to support economic growth and development for Torbay.
Since its launch, Torbay Story has helped Torbay to successfully secure millions of pounds in public sector funding and a major regeneration partnership. Together, we are now moving at pace to deliver transformational development projects across the area, unlocking new homes, creating new jobs and generating fresh opportunities.
But there is still so much to do, and we want to ensure everyone in Torbay is part of the journey.
A shared vision for Torbay
Torbay Story is the collective voice of the Bay.
It exists to celebrate the people, places and projects that make Torbay special. While the English Riviera is renowned for its stunning coastline and natural beauty, our greatest asset is our people.
From thriving local businesses and community organisations to volunteers, entrepreneurs and changemakers, Torbay is powered by people who care deeply about where they live and are committed to making it even better.
Through Torbay Story, we share their achievements, showcase local success and champion the opportunities that are helping Torbay thrive.
Place Leadership Boards
The Torbay Place Leadership Board, Torquay Place Leadership Board and Paignton Place Leadership Board play an important role in supporting Torbay Story.
These boards bring together leaders from across the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to focus on shared priorities, strengthen collaboration and help deliver positive change.
Their role is to:
- Set a shared direction for the future of Torbay and its towns
- Build stronger partnerships across organisations and communities
- Support projects that improve people's lives and strengthen local places
- Identify opportunities, overcome barriers and accelerate progress
- Keep a focus on outcomes that matter to residents
Together, they help ensure that local voices are heard and that investment and activity deliver meaningful benefits for communities across the Bay.
