Oldway Mansion

Expressions of interest now being sought

Torbay is at the beginning of a once in a generation transformation journey. Backed by Government investment and with a regeneration partner recently appointed there is a focus on making the most of the Bay's premier marine and natural environment alongside the heritage that has shaped the English Riviera.

Torbay Council are seeking expressions of interest for the lease of one of its landmark buildings -  Oldway Mansion and it's grounds. This represents an exciting opportunity in the heart of the English Riviera.

Please note, Oldway is not for sale, Torbay Council are looking for long term regeneration partners who by working together can move forward and regenerate this historic and important building for the residents of Torbay.

Oldway is a Grade II Listed historic building with huge residential/commercial/leisure potential.

It is set back in a private setting being only a short distance from a popular beach and the town centre of Paignton.

The Victorian mansion was commissioned by Isaac Singer, inventor of the Singer sewing machine, in 1875.  The mansion underwent further development, influenced by the architecture of the Palace of Versailles in France. It remained with the Singer family until the outbreak of the First World War when it was requisitioned as a war hospital.  Since the end of the Second World War, the mansion has served as a civic building and provided services to successive generations of the community, up until 2012.

The main mansion is a four storey building with a variety of spaces. It  offers a mixture of office, communal, commercial, and residential premises with an approximate total internal area of 3,450 sq m.

The main mansion is surrounded by a mixture of additional buildings and leisure facilities, including the Rotunda and Banqueting building, outdoor leisure facilities and extensive grounds.

There is established parking with good access links to central Paignton, Torquay and onto the surrounding area.

Oldway Mansion is based in the seaside town of Paignton, which is located on the south coast of Devon and forms part of Torbay alongside Torquay and Brixham.

The town is renowned for its famous seaside beaches and attractions.

Paignton isn't just loved by visitors, it excites entrepreneurs, as seen by our tech by the Bay, who are a cluster of national and international technology businesses who call this town their home.

Torbay Council is now seeking expressions of interest from investors, occupiers, and developers to collaborate with to restore Oldway Mansions and the grounds. The Council's aspiration is also to enable the estate to be returned to a community-focused health, wellbeing and creative hub within a historic setting.

Those wishing to register their interest please email invest@torbay.gov.uk by Sunday 16th June 2024.
